The SIMPLE Framework

Every commercial activity should have a clear connection to a business goal and a way to assess its contribution.

Strategy

Choose where to win

Know where you are going, and how you will win.

Strategy is a set of choices about where to focus, what you will invest, how you expect to create value and what you will stop doing. Without those choices, teams can stay busy while the work that matters commercially receives too little attention.

A common mistake

Trying to be everywhere, pursuing too many priorities, or measuring activity without understanding the economics.

What to do instead

  • Set one clear 90-day commercial objective
  • Choose one or two priorities, and be explicit about what you will not prioritise
  • Know what it costs to acquire a customer and compare it with the gross profit you can expect

Ideal Customers

Focus on the right fit

Focus on the customers you can reach, win, serve profitably and retain.

A broad audience can look attractive because it promises reach, but reach is not the same as commercial value. You need to know which customers value what you do, are likely to buy, can be served well and are worth building a relationship with over time.

A common mistake

Treating every enquiry or segment as equally valuable, so a busy team ends up serving customers who do not fit the offer.

What to do instead

  • Score each segment on profitability, likelihood to buy and retention
  • Check you can reach them consistently and deliver the promised value well
  • Label assumptions clearly, then validate them against real enquiries, margins and repeat business

Messaging

Make value clear

Make it clear how you help and why it matters.

Customers do not buy a list of features. They are trying to solve a problem, reach an outcome or reduce a risk. Your messaging needs to connect what you offer to what matters to the specific person making the decision.

A common mistake

Leading with deliverables, technical detail or broad claims before the customer's problem and desired outcome are clear.

What to do instead

  • Say who you help, and describe their problem in the words they would use
  • Explain the outcome they want and show why they should trust you
  • Check the message brings in the right enquiries, not just likes or views

We help [type of customer] [reach a goal] by [what we do], so they can [why it matters].

Pipeline

Create opportunities

Create a consistent flow of qualified opportunities.

A pipeline is the set of future commercial opportunities you are actively creating and progressing. It gives you visibility beyond the work already sold, so a busy month is not always followed by a quiet one.

A common mistake

Waiting for referrals or inbound enquiries, and pausing business development whenever delivery gets busy.

What to do instead

  • Define what makes an opportunity qualified, and record the next action and owner
  • Set a minimum level of business development that fits your sales cycle and capacity
  • Review renewals and likely client churn alongside new opportunities

Lead Conversion

Turn interest into sales

Turn opportunities into customers through a repeatable process.

Generating interest is only one part of growth. You need a consistent way to understand a prospect's needs, assess fit, communicate value, agree next steps and follow up with purpose, so conversion does not depend on one person's memory or instinct.

A common mistake

Leaving follow-up to chance, or letting every salesperson run a completely different process.

What to do instead

  • Build the process around clear stages: qualify, discover, communicate value, agree the next step
  • Give every active opportunity an owner, a next action and a date
  • Track progress and loss reasons by stage to see where the process needs work

Evaluation & Evolution

Learn and improve

Measure what matters, then use it to improve.

Measurement should help you make better decisions. It should show whether commercial activity is contributing to business goals, where opportunities are getting stuck and what to change next.

A common mistake

Setting targets for visible activity, like lead volume, without checking that they connect to growth.

What to do instead

  • Build a KPI hierarchy from business outcomes down to conversion and efficiency
  • Review weekly for execution, monthly for performance and quarterly for direction
  • For every metric, ask: if it changes, what decision could we make differently?

One connected commercial system, not six separate projects.

Each discipline strengthens the others. A clear message cannot make up for the wrong target customer, more leads will not fix a weak conversion process, and measurement only helps when it informs a decision.

Who It's For

Most of the founders we work with didn't start their business chasing a specific number. They started it because they were good at what they do, and wanted to build something bigger than themselves.

Somewhere along the way, growth turns into chaos. Marketing brings in people who aren't the right fit, sales doesn't follow up properly, and each team ends up blaming the other, because marketing and sales were never run as one team to begin with. Leads fall through the cracks, nobody agrees on what's actually working, and the owner ends up back in the weeds doing the job they hired people to do.

What they actually want isn't just a bigger revenue number. It's the confidence that they could take on twice the clients tomorrow and the system wouldn't break. That confidence, not just the revenue, is what we're building toward.

Most clients we work with are $1M+ in revenue, reach out even if you're close.
